An undoubtedly interesting thriller concept however a copy of the Hollywood Movie Momento (Guy Pearce)

Aamir Khan suffers from short-term memory loss in Ghajini, a cerebral disorder by which his memory lasts only for 15 minutes a.k.a Anterograde Amnesia. The director A R Murgadoss was so involved with the story that it seemed as if he suffered from the same while deriving from Momento, for he seems to have retained only about 15% of the original masterpiece and modified the rest as per his figments of imagination.

So while Aamir has the Polaroid camera, post it notes and a tattooed body copied from Memento, the romantic drama during the first half was a little too extensive. Aamir looks scary in a few scenes and has been at his best in terms of acting.

Sanjay Singhania (Played by Aamir Khan) has been hit on the head which gives him recurring bouts of amnesia, almost every fifteen minutes (these fifteen minutes look very long though). He is hunting for a person named Ghajini (Pradeep Rawat), and to remember his target, he has inscribed his initials and related clues on his body, has pasted post-it notes all across his apartment and carries a Polaroid camera to click pictures of people important to him.

An investigating Police officer gets hold of his daily diary that takes him in a trip to the past. Sanjay is a successful industrialist and falls in love with a girl named Kalpana (Asin). The diary changes hands from the inspector to a medical student (who at first gets Aamir arrested initially) but the discontinued flashback extends from the first half to the second half with a lengthy love story between the two. With ample romance, dancing in the desert and a touch of humour, the flashback ends and finally Aamir’s rage in the movie is exhibited.

Ghajini is basically a romance track slowly developing into a revenge show. Only externally it is sewed up with the memory loss syndrome which could have been the highlight. The major flaw of the film is how Sanjay remembers Ghajini’s sidekicks and traces them from nowhere even with the fifteen minutes flash memory. Almost every scene seems to have been written to cover up the earlier penned scene as if it was a mistake. The sad part of the movie was that Asin Thottumka never finds out that Aamir Khan is the real Sanjay Singhania in the movie.

Aamir has acted extremely well but during the climax the action sequence seemed a bit from Rajnikant movies. Asin is pleasing and has not overacted like most newcomers do. If you are expecting an intelligent psychological suspense thriller watch Memento, you’ll love every moment of it.

The only question one should ask themselves after watching the movie is, did it really require Aamir Khan to spend more than a year on such a training for chiseling his body only for Ghajini. Anyways, the movie is worth watching, its different than the others.

Shame on Aamir Khan… . Gajini is a pile of crap compared to Memento…

He simply wasted a piece of art…..

    Its a shame for Bollywood..
